Lighting for your Ceremony & Reception

FILED IN: Tips

Did you know that the proper lighting in a room can impact the mood and atmosphere of your ceremony and reception? There are so many ways that you can add a touch of vibrancy to a dull room by adding candles, lanterns, up lighting or even a lighted floor monogram. Below are a few ideas of how you can incorporate more lighting into your wedding day which will not only help your photographer in taking beautiful photos but will also add so much character to the ambiance for your guests.

Outdoor Natural Light: There is no light better than the light that emanates from the rays of the sun! This is a photographer’s dream!! So if you are having an outdoor wedding or reception, you are blessed! Make sure to have your wedding a little later in the afternoon a few hours before the sun is setting so you don’t have the hot and unpleasant light from the noon day sun.

Indoor Natural Light: Just as the sun can shine on the outside, with proper windows the sun can also come inside to a once dark room or church! Open those curtains up and let the sun beam on in!

Uplighting: Uplighting is a beautiful way to add the color or your wedding or a beautiful effect to your reception. This is a great way to add amazing lighting to the background of your dance instead of having a dark background. Really think about adding this to your reception room, you will not regret it!

Candles: One candle alone will create a little light but when candles are clustered together in a group it creates an abundance of light but not just the light a very beautiful ambiance!  Candles can be placed on a table or stairs, floating in a bowl vase full of water or suspended in a tall floral arrangement. There are so many options when it comes to candles!

Chandeliers: Chandeliers are a beautiful and classy way to add light to a wedding reception. If you are having an outdoor reception, don’t be afraid to use indoor décor in an outdoor environment! It is absolutely magical, either way!

Canopy of Lights: You can suspend a string of lights surrounding venue columns, trees or through wooden beams.

Floor or Wall Monograms: Monograms are trending in 2018! Couples are opting to hire lighting specialists that can create a monogram of the couple’s initials that are displayed on a beautiful floor or wall for their guests to enjoy. Monograms also are beautiful for photographs!

Keep in mind that there can never be too much lighting, so it’s best to flip all those light switches up if you can…except for the dancing!
