I thoroughly enjoyed myself this weekend, having the privilege to photograph my clients Angela ad Matthis. They met in Tae Kwan Do over six years ago, and after dating for six years, Matthis proposed to Angela a year ago and she said yes!
On Saturday, they celebrated their love and commitment to one another in a traditional Korean wedding held at The Ranch at Little Hills. Angela and Matthis wore a traditional hanbok, which is a vibrantly colorful Korean dress that was specifically designed for their ceremony. The happy couple performed a celebration called “The Pyebaek”, where dates and chestnuts are given to the bride as a representation of the bride’s fertility. At the end of the ceremony, the parents of the bride and groom threw the dates and chestnuts at the bride and groom as they try to catch them in her large skirt. The number of dates and chestnuts that they are able to catch is a symbol of the amount of children that the beautiful couple will give birth to. Although they were able to catch a total of twenty dates and chestnuts, they slightly threw some away to keep just three.
The next day, they preformed the traditional American wedding amongst the tall trees. Angela had a gorgeous gown with a vail fit for a princess. As the bridal party and I were walking to take photos we stumbled upon a very camoflauged rattlesnake that was right next to my foot! One of the groomsmen pointed it out and said “Look, there’s a snake!!!” I was and the bridesmaids were so shocked, and then the bride wanted to include the little rattler friend in the photo op as she pointed at the snake!
Following this little scare, Angela and Matthis continued back to their friends in family where the happy couple celebrated at their reception (also held at The Ranch at Little Hills). They performed a German ceremony where the couple must work together in their first obstacle to overcome, by sawing a log together. It was beautiful to watch as Angela and Matthis worked together to complete the task. Although after some time they brought a chainsaw to aid in their efforts.
After watching that ceremony and seeing how they worked together as a couple, I know that Angela and Matthis will work together in their future obstacles. Congrats to you both!!
