“How do I select the best room to get ready in?” This is one question that I am often asked by my brides. When making the selection of the perfect room, here are a few tips I like to suggest for selecting the perfect room for your wedding day.
Proper Light: The first thing I like to advise my brides is to consider finding a room with plenty of natural light, preferably through a large window where the sun can beam in! I’ve been privileged to work with many brides that have found an abundance of light and sometimes it’s as simple as asking the hotel or venue to accommodate your needs and they are happy to oblige!
Having proper lighting from a window can shine on your face to make for a beautiful bridal portrait!
Spacious Room: The next thing I like to advise to the bride is to select a room that is very spacious and allows for moving around easily, free from clutter which allows the photographer to take beautiful detailed shots. With limited space, it’s also important to keep the amount of people in the room to the closest family and friends only. This is best to ensure that there is plenty of space to maneuver for the photograph session.
Preparing the Room: Next is to ensure that the room is tidied up prior to the photographer’s arrival to maximize the time to take those beautiful photographs and makes for less opportunity of bumping into things. This also allows the photographer to get amazing detailed photos!
Full length mirror: There is nothing more beautiful than taking a photo in a full-length mirror with your bridal party standing behind you or a photograph of you looking into a handheld mirror at the detail of your makeup and hair. If the room does not supply a mirror in the room, these are very inexpensive to purchase at your nearby department store.
Photos on the bed: If you choose to get ready in a hotel room, there are many pictures that can be taken on the bed with your bridesmaids such as popping champagne or sparklers or throwing rose petals in the air, etc. One thing to consider in this aspect of your room selection is to find a room that has a nice comforter on the bed and will add charm to your photographs.
Items to have in your room: Some items that are useful to have in the room with you at the time that the photographer arrives would be your dress, shoes, jewelry, invitations, garter, bouquet and both his and her rings. Having these items available allows the photographer to get some great detailed shots for you to remember for years to come! It also saves on time trying to track down the rings or other details.
This is just the beginning of many photographs to be taken on your special day and I look forward to capturing your memories to last a lifetime!
